I usually like to go back to nature and get inspired by the colours, shapes and forms around me. For Atelier I first looked into symbiotic relationships with a focus the relationship between clownfish and the sea anemone. From that researched into the importance of coral reefs and the underwater world in general for life on Earth. My process led me towards jellyfish as I was inspired by their grace as they dance through the water. I tried capturing their essence as an homage to the complex world under water.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The design is based on a series of shape experiments firstly created physically on a dummy and then edited further in Photoshop. I find the combination of analogue and digital experimentation really great as it’s very intuitive and free.

PRINT DEVELOPMENT
The print was inspired by the inside of shells which I then turned into my own repeated pattern. I scanned it and brought it first into photoshop and extracted the elements that were the most interesting to me and created a placement print in Illustrator. Lastly I laser cut a stencil from reclaimed wood and hand printed the design on the quilted silk volant for the coloured version of the dress.
